Privacy Policy

Tech Skills by Mail ("we," "us," or "our") operates techskillsbymail.com and a mail-based technology skills course. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can, and we never sell your information.
Information we collect
Information you give us. When you sign up for the course or a free beta cohort, we collect your first name and email address, and in some cases your ZIP code (to confirm you're in an area we serve). When you purchase, our payment processor collects your mailing address so we can send your lessons, along with your payment details.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. Your card number never touches our servers. Stripe's handling of your information is governed by Stripe's privacy policy.
Practice-page activity. Some of our lessons include QR codes that open practice pages on our site (for example, pages under /learn/qr-codes). When you visit one of these pages, we record which practice page was opened, an optional non-personal cohort tag, and the time of the visit — nothing else. These records contain no name, email, IP address, or device information, and we use them only to see whether lessons are working.
Analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand overall site traffic (page views, referrers, general region). It is aggregated and anonymized, does not use cookies, and does not track you across other websites.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Deliver the course — printing and mailing your lessons to the address you provide at checkout
- Send you emails about your signup, your order, and your lessons
- Answer your questions when you contact us
- Understand, in aggregate, how the site and lessons are being used so we can improve them
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing.
Where your information lives
Your signup information is stored in Google Workspace (Google Sheets and Gmail), which we use to manage signups and send confirmation emails. Payment and shipping details are stored with Stripe. Anonymous practice-page records are stored with Supabase. Our website is hosted on Vercel. Each of these providers processes data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments.
Cookies
Our site works without tracking cookies. If we ask for cookie consent, we store your choice in a single cookie so we don't ask again. That's it.
We send transactional emails (signup confirmations, order updates) and occasional emails about your course. You can opt out of non-essential email at any time by replying to any message or emailing us at the address below.
How long we keep information
We keep signup and order records for as long as you're a customer and as long as we reasonably need them afterward for bookkeeping and tax purposes. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see below).
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to:
- Show you the personal information we have about you
- Correct or update it
- Delete it
Just email scott@techskillsbymail.com and we'll take care of it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); we'll honor valid requests under those laws too.
Children
Our website and checkout are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted on the site or by email.
